Purpose and Activities

The foundation supports grassroots programs which focus on community capacity building and social justice in Santa Barbara and Ventura Counties, California. The foundation also funds efforts that create a social or societal change, rather than individual empowerment or development of leadership skills in individuals, except where such training is directly linked to community action and participants are committed to remaining in the community.

Established in 1990 in CA - The grantmaker is a signatory to Philanthropy’s Promise, an initiative of the National Committee for Responsive Philanthropy (NCRP). By signing on, the grantmaker has committed to allocating the majority of its grantmaking dollars to marginalized communities and at least 25 percent to social justice strategies, such as advocacy, community organizing, and civic engagement
