The Marin Community Foundation was founded with one simple aspiration: to make a difference in the lives of others through thoughtful, effective philanthropy. The foundation's mission is to encourage and apply philanthropic contributions to help improve the human condition, embrace diversity, promote a humane and democratic society, and enhance the community's quality of life, now and for future generations.
Incorporated in 1986 in California - The foundation was established in 1986 with the assets of a trust created by Dr. Leonard and Beryl H. Buck, who were long-time Marin residents. Since then, over 500 individuals, families, businesses, and community groups have established funds at the foundation. Grants made from these funds support a wide range of issues within the San Francisco Bay Area, throughout the U.S., and around the world. The foundation is governed by a nine-member Board of Directors and its President and C.E.O. It is one of the largest community foundations in the U.S.
