Purpose and Activities

The foundation seeks to improve the quality of life and to instill a greater sense of unity in the Greater Lorain County community by mobilizing individuals to become active partners in building a better community; providing a permanent instrument for receiving and managing charitable gifts and bequests; supporting innovative programs and acting as a catalyst in identifying problems and sharing information with individuals, other foundations, corporations, and organizations; and exercising and promoting leadership in meeting the changing needs and opportunities of the entire community.


Incorporated in 1980 in OH - Created in 1980 with a challenge grant from the Nordson Foundation, the foundation acts as Lorain County's permanent endowment and is made up of hundreds of charitable funds established by generous donors, businesses, organizations, schools and churches. Income earned through well-managed investments is distributed annually in the form of grants and scholarships to local nonprofit institutions and students. More than 2% of Lorain County's population makes a gift to the foundation each year. The foundation is governed by 19 member Board of Directors each of whom serve four-year terms. Board members reflect the diversity of this community and are elected through a nomination process. The foundation is managed by a professional staff of eleven
