Purpose and Activities

To foster the prevention and treatment of disease and disability by honoring excellence in basic and clinical science, and through public education and research advocacy.

Incorporated in 1942 in NY - The Lasker Awards were inaugurated in the years following World War II by philanthropists, Albert and Mary Lasker, and were named in their honor. After Albert's death in 1953, Mrs. Lasker continued as the driving force behind the awards. She also was a dominant figure behind the 5-decade quest to secure public support for medical research in America. Mrs. Lasker died in 1994, leaving as her major legacy a lifetime of powerful influence on health and science in America
