Giving to foster development of the capabilities of young people through improving the quality of teaching in secular elementary and secondary schools; program includes awards in recognition of outstanding teaching; special educational programs for teachers in the fields of the humanities, the arts, and the sciences; curriculum development projects; school evaluation studies; and educational television programs. Preference is given to programs that target underserved student populations and districts with fewer available resources.
Incorporated in 1959 in OH - The foundation's sole donor, the late Martha Holden Jennings, was the widow of Andrew R. Jennings, European manager of International Business Machines Corporation. Mrs. Jennings established the foundation to provide a means for greater accomplishment on the part of teachers, which she hoped would result in greater recognition of the teaching profession in public schools
