Purpose and Activities

Grants are made in the following areas: education, health and human services, and community enhancement.

Established in 1982 in OK - The Inasmuch Foundation was established by Edith Kinney Gaylord. She was born Mar. 5, 1916, in Oklahoma City to Inez and E.K. Gaylord. Her father was editor and publisher of The Daily Oklahoman and Oklahoma City Times since before statehood days until his death in 1974. Ms. Gaylord attended Oklahoma City public schools and graduated from the old Classen High. She attended The Colorado College and graduated from Wells College in New York, in 1937. At that time, she began working as a reporter and editor for The Daily Oklahoman, The Oklahoma City Times and at WKY, the family owned radio station. In 1942, Ms. Gaylord joined the New York bureau of the Associated Press and went to work for the Washington Bureau the following year. By 1943, she was the only woman on the general news staff of the Washington Bureau. Her assignments allowed her to cover some of the nation's most prominent women and address some of the nation's top news topics. In 1944, she became the president of the Women's National Press Club (now the National Press Club) and secretary of Eleanor Roosevelt's Press Conference Association. The foundation's name Inasmuch was taken from the Gospel of Saint Matthew from the King James Version of the Bible, where Jesus expresses, "Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these, my brethren, ye have done it unto me". Edith Kinney Gaylord died in Jan. 2001
