Established in 1965 in SC - Founded in the name of the late John Edgar Hoover, the first director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation who served from 1935 until his death in 1972. He is the recipient of several honors, including the National Security Medal and the Distinguished Service Award. The headquarters of the FBI is named the J. Edgar Hoover Building in honor of its first director.
