Purpose and Activities

Giving for construction and operation of hospitals, medical treatment, and research organizations and programs; grants to churches and affiliated religious organizations (nondenominational); grants to building programs or special educational projects at colleges and universities, mostly local; contributions also to cultural programs, social services, youth agencies, and ecological causes. Each spring, the foundation also awards 70 scholarships to Houston area high school seniors for undergraduate study. The award is $16,000, disbursed over 4 years. Applicants must have a minimum SAT score of 1,000 (on the Math and Critical Reading portions combined), and/or ACT score of 21. The recipient may select any major at any four year college or university.


Incorporated in 1954 in TX - Under the direction of Mary Josephine Hamman, the foundation was formed on May 20, 1954 in Houston, TX.
