Purpose and Activities

The foundation supports The Wayne Gretzky Foundation in its mission of assisting community-based programs that benefit underprivileged and at-risk youths through promoting participation and interest in hockey.

Founded by Wayne Gretzky, former NHL player and coach. Nicknamed "The Great One," Gretzky is considered one of the greatest - if not the greatest - hockey players of all time. During his career, Gretzky played for the Edmonton Oilers (which he led to four Stanley Cup championships), the Los Angeles Kings, St. Louis Blues and New York Rangers. At the time of his retirement, Gretzky held over 40 NHL career scoring records, including most points scored, most goals scored and most assists. Among the awards Gretzky won are nine Hart Trophies (NHL Most Valuable Player). In 1999, Gretzky was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame.
