Purpose and Activities

The foundation champions innovative organizations that create bold, best-in-class solutions to increase the number of college graduates from under-resourced communities. They seek to accomplish this by seeding and growing educational models that empower motivated, yet underserved students to enter college, graduate and advance society. The foundation seeks to provide educational support where the system leaves off, with a focus on supplemental education initiatives that help students succeed. The foundation has a deep, long-term approach to grantmaking through investment in Gould Partners over the long-term, to provide them with the additional resources and office space needed to work, grow and collaborate.

Incorporated in 1923 in New York, NY - The foundation's commitment to serve young people traces back to 1885 with Edwin Gould's first grant to seed the Messiah Home for Children in New York City. In 1923, he incorporated the Edwin Gould Foundation to expand this work, and since then, the foundation has provided seed funding and support for several of the nation's most successful innovations in education.
