The foundation promotes the growth of philanthropy by helping donors achieve their philanthropic goals. The foundation: 1) serves as a leader, catalyst and resource for philanthropy; 2) creates and manages charitable funds; and 3) identifies and addresses community needs through initiatives, partnerships and strategic grantmaking.
Established in 1992 in CT as a result of the merger of the Five Town Foundation, Danbury Community Endowment, Fairfield County Cooperative Foundation, Greenwich Foundation for Public Giving, and Stamford Foundation; merged with The Greater Bridgeport Area Foundation in 2008 - The grantmaker is a signatory to Philanthropy’s Promise, an initiative of the National Committee for Responsive Philanthropy (NCRP). By signing on, the grantmaker has committed to allocating the majority of its grantmaking dollars to marginalized communities and at least 25 percent to social justice strategies, such as advocacy, community organizing, and civic engagement
