Trust established in 1959 in NY - Founded by Richard Prentice Ettinger and his wife, Elsie P. Ettinger, who provided the initial funding of the foundation based on the success of the Prentice-hall Publishing Co. During his lifetime, Mr. Ettinger was able to make effective and innovative grants that set a pattern of effective giving for the present Board of Directors to emulate. Mr. Ettinger was also a visionary. He realized that tomorrow's problems would not necessarily be the same as those facing his generation. As a result, he insisted there be flexibility in the board's grantmaking, so future board members could address the most pressing issues of their time
