Purpose and Activities

Support for religious, charitable, scientific, literacy, or educational purposes for the public benefaction of the inhabitants of the city of Midland and of the people of the state of Michigan. Grants largely for education, particularly higher education, community and social services, civic improvement, conservation, scientific research, church support (only in Midland County, MI), and cultural programs; maintains Dow Gardens, a public horticultural garden.


Established in 1936 in MI - Mrs. Dow established the foundation in memory of her husband, Dr. Herbert H. Dow, founder of the Dow Chemical Co. The original trustees of the foundation were Mrs. Dow's five living children.
