Purpose and Activities

The foundation was established for the advancement of education, medicine, religion, science; the improvement of the health and welfare of infants, children, adults, families, and the aged; the help and care of the sick, aged, and incapacitated; and the aid of those in need.


Established in 1949 in CA as a Trust; reorganized in 2006 as a non-profit corporation - Founded by the late Carrie Estelle Doheny, who served throughout her lifetime as a trustee of many civic and social welfare organizations and, in 1954, was selected by the Los Angeles Times as Los Angeles Woman of the Year. Doheny was also named a Lady of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem by Pope Pius XI and, in 1939, was elevated to the royal rank of Papal Countess by Pope Pius XII. She is the widow of oil producer Edward L. Doheny, who, with a partner, drilled the first successful well in the Los Angeles City oil field in 1892.
