Purpose and Activities

The organization aims to fight extreme poverty and preventable disease around the world, particularly in Africa, through public education and grassroots mobilization in support of the Millennium Development Goals, and through educating global leaders to adopt smart policies and invest in tested, proven solutions.


Established in 2002 in DC - Founded by Paul David Hewson, most commonly known by his stage name "Bono" from the Dublin-based rock band U2. As a member of U2, Bono has performed on the albums "War," "The Joshua Tree," "Achtung Baby," and "All That You Can't Leave Behind." Bono is also widely known for his activism concerning Africa, for which he co-founded DATA, EDUN, the ONE Campaign and Product Red. He has been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize, was granted honorary knighthood by Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom, and was named as a Person of the Year by Time. In 2013, Bono was made a Commandeur of the French Ordre des Arts et des Lettres (Order of Arts and Letters).
