Purpose and Activities

The Daphne Foundation invests in organizations that empower community residents directly affected by poverty, violence & discrimination to develop solutions that result in a more equitable, fair and peaceful New York City. Applicants and grantees of the Daphne Foundation demonstrate strength in the following areas: 1) Dedication to community leaders; 2) Are community based organizations in New York City; 3) Currently work to address community concerns as defined by community members; 4) Promotes strategies for systematic and/ or institutional change; 4) Understands the importance of collaboration; 5) Are committed to organizational health and sustainability .


Established in 1990 in CA, US; The Daphne Foundation was created in 1991 with the intention of being a resource for New York City. The family foundation envisions a world of thriving communities living in peace, dignity, and justice. As a signatory of Philanthropy’s Promise, an initiative of the National Committee for Responsive Philanthropy (NCRP) they have committed to allocating at least 25% of its grantmaking dollars to social justice strategies. These include, but are not limited to leadership development, advocacy, and community organizing
