Trust established in 1889 in CA - Mary Ann Deming was born in 1827, the daughter of a saw-mill owner in Mishawaka, Marshall County, Indiana. In 1852 she ventured westward to California with her new husband, Charles Crocker, and together they opened a general store in Sacramento. Later, her husband became one of the "Big Four" involved in the creation of the Pacific Railroad. Upon her death on Nov. 4th, 1889, her four surviving children, Harriet, William, George, and Frederick, set up a Trust in honor of the charitable work to which she was devoted. The present Trustees and Associates of the Mary A. Crocker Trust are all descendants of this courageous and spirited pioneer.
