Background
Established in 1900 - Katrina Trask, a poet and playwright, and her husband Spencer founded the organization as a charitable arts institution in 1900; it began its formal residency program in 1926. Since then, some 6,000 artists have spent time at the organization, creating literature (fiction, nonfiction and poetry), paintings, photography, sculpture, music, dances, films and performances that have both expanded the portfolio of American art and touched millions of lives.
