Purpose and Activities

The foundation was established by the late Tyrus R. Cobb for the purpose of assisting capable and deserving residents of GA (who have resided in GA for at least 2 years prior to attending college, or have graduated from high school in GA), who need financial assistance in completing their college education. Foundation scholarships are granted to qualified students who have completed at least 30 semester hours or 45 quarter hours, with a 3.0 GPA or better, for the purpose of attending an accredited college or university full time. Professional students pursuing their dentistry or MD degrees, who are residents of GA, and have demonstrated financial need are eligible to apply.


Trust established in 1953 in GA - Founded by late Ty Cobb, who was a professional baseball player for the Detroit Tigers from 1905-1926. He received the most votes of any player on the 1936 inaugural Hall of Fame ballot (222 out of 226.) He is widely credited with setting ninety Major League Baseball records during his career, some of which are still unbeaten.
