Purpose and Activities

Baptist Community Ministries is committed to the development of a healthy community offering a wholesome quality of life to its residents and to improving the physical, mental, and spiritual health of the individuals it serves.

Established in 1996 in LA; converted from the sale of the assets of Mercy + Baptist Medical Center. In 2009, the organization changed their name following a merger with the original Baptist Community Ministries - Baptist Community Ministries (BCM) is a private, grantmaking foundation committed to a healthier Greater New Orleans area. BCM enjoys a long history of serving the physical and spiritual needs of the community which began over 75 years ago with the formation of Southern Baptist Hospital in New Orleans. With the endowment established after the sale of the hospital in 1995, BCM supports programs that strengthen the health of people and promote access to a good education, a safe environment, and efficient, trustworthy government. A board of trustees comprised of uncompensated community leaders governs BCM. BCM funds grants in four major areas of interest: education, health, public safety, and governmental oversight. Since the first grant was approved in 1996, more than 225 programs and initiatives sponsored by over 119 nonprofit organizations have received funding from BCM.
