Purpose and Activities

The foundation encourages and supports research to develop effective treatments and a cure for paralysis caused by spinal cord injury and other central nervous system disorders, and allocates a portion of its resources to grants that improve the quality of life for people with disabilities.


Established in 1988 in NJ by the merger of the Christopher Reeve Foundation and the American Paralysis Association - Founded by the late Christopher Reeve and his wife Dana. Mr. Reeve was an actor best-known for his portrayal of Superman in the film "Superman" (1978) and its sequels "Superman II" (1980), "Superman III" (1983), and "Superman IV: The Quest for Peace" (1987). Mr. Reeve also appeared on Broadway in 1980 in "Fifth of July," as well as in an adaptation of "The Marriage of Fiagro" in 1985. After suffering a cervical spinal injury that left him paralyzed in 1995, he became an advocate for embryonic stem cell research
