Purpose and Activities

The foundation is committed to transforming public education by using food traditions and rituals to teach, nurture, and empower young people.


Established in 1996 in CA - Founded by Alice Waters, a celebrity cook, restaurateur and food activist. She opened Chez Panisse restaurant in 1971 and is the author of nine cookbooks, including "Fanny at Chez Panisse" and "The Art of Simple Food." She is the recipient of numerous awards, including Bon Appétit magazine's Lifetime Achievement Award in 2000 and the James Beard Humanitarian Award in 1997. Ms. Waters and was named Best Chef in America by the James Beard Foundation in 1992
