Purpose and Activities
The purpose of the trust is to improve the lives and well-being of people throughout the UK and the Republic of Ireland through influencing public policy and demonstrating innovative practice.
Background
Established in 1913 - Founded by Andrew Carnegie in 1913, as a think-tank and grantmaking organization in the UK and Ireland. The trust is one of 22 based in the US and Europe. Mr. Carnegie established the Carnegie Steel Company, which launched the steel industry in Pittsburgh, PA. During his lifetime, he personally donated over $300 million in gifts, including over $56 million for more than 2,500 municipal library buildings throughout the English-speaking world.
