Purpose and Activities

Support for homeless families and criminal justice reform (death penalty and juvenile justice).

Established in 1992 in DC - The original board consisted of seven members of one family. Initial program areas were homelessness and at-risk youth, with its first round of program grants in the spring of 1994. From the outset, it has been interested in supporting organizations that are committed to addressing problems through systematic change, advocacy, policy reform, and innovative direct service programs. The Fund places a high value on creativity and risk taking. In 2001, the Fund decided to move away from at-risk youth. It chose, instead to shift its second major grants area to the field of criminal justice reform
