Purpose and Activities

The foundation's primary interest is in the field of education, including smaller colleges and public education initiatives in New York City. The foundation also makes grants to strengthen the nonprofit sector and support cultural institutions in New York City. Grants in other areas are made occasionally, most often in the fields in which the Booth family had an interest. The foundation primarily funds capital and capacity building projects.


Trusts established in 1957 and 1958 in NY; merged in 1964 - A business executive and banker, Mr. Willis H. Booth was vice-president of both the Guaranty Trust Company and Hotpoint Electric Heating Company. He served on the boards of numerous corporations, and was a member of national and international trade commissions. The foundation was established under the wills of Willis H. Booth and his wife Chancie Ferris Booth.
