About

Incorporated in 1938 in CA - Founded in the name of the late Sir Francis Bacon by the late Walter Conrad Arensberg and Louise Arensberg to promote research in history, philosophy, science, literature, and art, with special emphasis paid to the life and works of the foundation's namesake. Francis Bacon was the first and only Viscount of St. Alban, and in 1591 served as confidential adviser to the 2nd Earl of Essex, England, and in 1618, Lord Chancellor of England. In 1620, his philosophical work "Novum Organum" was published, a work which detailed Bacon's new system of logic and begat what has become known as the "Baconian Method." Some of Bacon's other writings include "The Elements of Common Law of England," "The History of the Reign of King Henry the Seventh" and "New Atlantis." Foundation founder Walter Conrad Arensberg was an art collector, critic and poet, whose published works included "The Cryptography of Shakespeare," "Burial of Francis Bacon and His Mother in the Lichfield Chapter House," and "The Shakespearean Mystery" (all published in the 1920's). In the mid-1900's, his poem "Voyage a l'Infini" was also published.
