Purpose and Activities

Giving for: 1) the improvement of working class conditions among workers generally, as well as among particular classes of unskilled, skilled, and agricultural workers; 2) the establishment, support, and maintenance of hospitals, homes, and institutions for the care of the sick, the young, the aged, the incompetent, and the helpless; 3) the improvement of living conditions among people generally, as well as in particular sections or localities; and 4) the promotion of health, science, education, and advancement and diffusion of knowledge and understanding among people.


Established in 2003 in TX as a successor foundation to the first M.D. Anderson Foundation - Founded by the late M.D. Anderson, co-founder of Anderson, Clayton & Co. The company was a partnership between M.D. Anderson, his older brother Frank and Frank’s brother-in-law, Will Clayton, to engage in buying and selling cotton. Anderson, Clayton & Co. came to be the world's largest merchant of raw cotton and for nearly a century it was known as “King Cotton.” In the mid-1930s, M.D. Anderson and co-founder Will Clayton owned more than half the corporation’s stock. The foundation received $19,000,000 after M.D. Anderson's death in 1939.
