Purpose and Activities

Giving to further the education of young people by granting scholarships, fellowships, gifts, and awards; grants made in lump sums solely to institutions. Support of undergraduate aid programs administered by the grantee institutions and including the period of postgraduate study.


Trust established in 1958 in MN - A veteran employee of the Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing Company at Duluth and a company vice-president at the time of his death, Mr. Alliss left an estate of about $12 million. Half of the estate was left to Mrs. Alliss, and the remainder, except for $617,000 in bequests, was used for the establishment of the foundation "for the furtherance of the education of young people." When Mrs. Alliss died in 1966, the foundation received approximately $10 million from her estate
