Purpose and Activities

Giving primarily to organizations whose missions are to provide women and girls with reproductive self-determination, healthcare, education, and protection from violence, exploitation and/or discrimination .


Established in 1996 in CA - Founded by Isabel Allende, a Chilean-American novelist who is known for such books as "The House of Spirits," her young adult novel "City of Beasts," "The Island Beneath the Sea," and her memoir "Paula" which is a tribute to Ms. Allende's daughter, the late Paula Frias Allende whom The Isabel Allende Foundation pays homage to. Allende has written many other books in addition to these, and among her numerous awards and prizes, she is a recipient of the 1996 Hispanic Heritage Award in Literature, the 1998 Dorothy and Lillian Gish Prize, the 2010 Chilean National Prize for Literature, and the 2011 Hans Christian Andersen Literature Award. In 2014, Allende received an honorary degree of Doctor of Letters from Harvard University for her contributions to literature.
