The foundation was established to support organizations that promote education, health care, economic independence and cultural activities in Cuyahoga County, Ohio. The current priority is urban education.
Established in 1983 in OH - David Knight Ford was born in Cleveland in 1894. After graduating from Yale University in 1915 and serving in the armed forces during World War I, he married Elizabeth Kingsley Brooks. Mrs. Ford became a founder and first president of the Cleveland Area League for Nursing, now known as the Ohio League for Nursing, while David became a founder of Lubrizol Corporation. He also served as a member of its board of directors and as a trustee of the Lubrizol Foundation. The Abington Foundation, named for the place in New England where Mr. Ford's ancestors first settled, was created to support the values which the Fords championed and which their descendants now uphold
