About

Purpose and Activities

The MAB-Mackay Rehabilitation Centre was formed in December 2006 from the coming together of two historic and respected institutions in our city, the Montreal Association for the Blind and the Mackay Rehabilitation Centre. The Mackay Centre opened its doors to deaf children in 1869 and for physically disabled children since 1916. The Montreal Association for the Blind was founded in 1908 by Philip E. Layton as a social club, a Braille lending library and a sheltered workshop. With more than 240 years of shared history, the Centre’s mission is to maximize its clients’ autonomy and community participation in order to improve their quality of life.
