Founded in 1912, the Long Beach Day Nursery (LBDN) provides quality early care and education to young children (ages six weeks to six years old) of working parents. Agency is an accredited and licensed childcare provider operating two branches in Long Beach. Section E1 describes the variety of services offered and the composition of families served, with its West branch serving 100% state subsidized families. Approximately 40% of families, all at its East branch, pay a full-fee rate as designated by the state, which is significantly still lower than LA County market rate averages. LBDN offers developmentally appropriate program offerings for the students in partnership with the parents. Parents are surveyed annually and develop their own parent engagement and education plans. LBDN also formalized a volunteer program based off the "room parent" model that also involves parent training on topics such as advocating for your child's education and how to be the child's first teacher. Notably, LBDN is one of the few NAEYC accredited early childhood centers in Long Beach, as recognized in Section E2, demonstrating current ECERS ratings of 5.68 For its preschool and 5.81 For infant/toddler classrooms. Last year, 55 full-time staff, 24 part-time staff and 75 volunteers served 326 children and families. Teachers reflect the ethnic and linguistic diversity of Long Beach and children served.
