Purpose and Activities

Giving primarily for animal welfare, arts and sciences, colleges and universities, cultural organizations, historic preservation, hospitals and healthcare agencies, libraries, open space, parks, and recreation, protection of the environment, public and independent schools, social services, and youth organizations. One of the objectives of the foundation is to help people help themselves. Generally, support is provided for needed development rather than for general operating expenses. Giving limited to Rhode Island and to out-of-state applicants that have a strong nexus to Rhode Island and its people.


Established in RI, US; As a result of a merger effective Dec. 31, 2016, the three prior foundations known collectively as "The Champlin Foundations," have been consolidated into one and going forward shall be referred to as The Champlin Foundation. The result of this merger will allow for some meaningful cost savings which the foundation anticipates being able to pass along to the non-profit community in the form of increased support. Trusts established in 1932, 1947, and 1975 in DE - The Champlin Foundations are made up of the Champlin Foundation Trust (EIN 516010168), the Second Champlin Foundation Trust (EIN 516010449) , and the Third Champlin Foundation (EIN 510165988).
