Purpose and Activities

The foundation is organized to be aware of and respond to the health rights and needs of culturally and demographically diverse peoples and communities of New Mexico. The foundation seeks to address the health needs of underserved populations, to support and strengthen nonprofits that seek to improve the health of the underserved, to encourage leaders in the field, and to inform the development of public policies that promote wellness and access to preventive health care.


Established in 2001 in NM, US; The foundation was established in 2001, through the sale of Blue Cross/Blue Shield of New Mexico. The conversion provided charitable assets of $20 million for the foundation - The grantmaker is a signatory to Philanthropy’s Promise, an initiative of the National Committee for Responsive Philanthropy (NCRP). By signing on, the grantmaker has committed to allocating the majority of its grantmaking dollars to marginalized communities and at least 25 percent to social justice strategies, such as advocacy, community organizing, and civic engagement.
