Purpose and Activities

The Disability Rights Advocacy Fund (DRAF) supports Disabled Persons Organizations in the developing world to advance legal frameworks to realize their rights, utilizing the mechanism of the United Nations’ Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD).

The Disability Rights Advocacy Fund (DRAF), along with its sister fund, the Disability Rights Fund (DRF), is a collaboration between donors and the disability community to advance the UN CRPD. Building on the momentum of this landmark treaty and on its mandate on States Parties to include people with disabilities and their representative organizations – Disabled Persons Organizations (DPOs) – in rights implementation, the DRAF focuses grantmaking on building the capacity of DPOs to be full and equal participants in the achievement of rights for the world’s one billion people with disabilities. Grants support country-level Disabled Persons’ Organizations (DPOs) to participate in treaty ratification and legislative advocacy in the developing world. DRAF also identifies and supports other efforts to advance the rights of persons with disabilities at regional and cross-movement levels through Strategic Partnership grants.
