DVIS/CALL RAPE

Domestic Violence Intervention Services, Inc. (DVIS/Call Rape) was founded in 1976 as the Tulsa Task Force for Battered Women. In 1978, the organization began offering a comprehensive array of services, was incorporated, and became a member agency of the United Way. The name was then changed to Domestic Violence Intervention Services, Inc. (DVIS). In January of 2005, DVIS merged with Call Rape and added sexual assault services to the existing continuum of care. The organization has now grown into the only local community-based full service agency in Tulsa and Creek counties, and the only accredited domestic violence agency in the state of Oklahoma, providing intervention, prevention, and education services to families and individuals affected by domestic violence and sexual assault.
 
With an operating budget of $4 Million, programs now include: a 50-bed emergency shelter, a transitional living facility, outpatient counseling, therapeutic children's counseling, court and legal advocacy, a self-sufficiency program, community outreach and education, and prevention in schools using a curriculum on healthy relationships and dating violence. I have been with DVIS/Call Rape since October 2008, researching new funding sources, writing grants and administering the grants for DVIS/Call Rape. With the assistance of Foundation Directory Online, I have located five new funding sources during the organization's 2011 fiscal year that ended June 30, 2012. Foundation Directory Online gives grant writers access to timely, comprehensive information on potential funders and their grants, and is a very valuable tool that provides a quick pathway to funders.

Yosemite Conservancy is the sole philanthropic organization dedicated exclusively to the protection and preservation of Yosemite National Park and enhancement of the visitor experience. With a 90-year history of supporting the park, we create opportunities for people to connect with the park through restoring hiking trails and iconic lookouts and providing outdoor education and volunteer programs. STUDENTS RUN LA

Students Run LA (SRLA) is an innovative and successful youth empowerment program that helps at-risk Los Angeles students stay in school, graduate from high school, and continue on to college or university. Teachers volunteer to train with these students for the LA Marathon, to teach them how to set and achieve goals. While running is the core activity of the program, students participating in SRLA learn discipline, perseverance, and hard work. These lessons translate directly into their future success: SRLA students enjoy school, stay in school and graduate at a higher rate than do their peers.

Now in our 24th successful year of operation in Los Angeles, SRLA's annual results are both staggering and a tradition. More than 95% of the SRLA students who attempt the Marathon finish it, and more than 95% of the SRLA seniors who finish the Marathon graduate from high school. (Last March, 99% of the 2,856 SRLA runners completed the LA Marathon, and in June 2012, the graduation rate was also 99%.)

Students Run LA (SRLA) has been a subscriber to Foundation Directory Online for 10 years, and has had tremendous success with it. We have identified and applied to 52 foundations who serve disadvantaged youth in the Los Angeles area. As a result, eight of these foundations have contributed a total of $165,000 to SRLA, and four of them are ongoing contributors to our organization.
