The Foundation Center has compiled a data set of more than 4,000 grants and in-kind gifts totaling over $800 million awarded to more than 1,900 recipients for Katrina- and Rita-related relief and recovery efforts. The file includes a large sample of the grants of $1,000 or more awarded between 2005 and 2008 by nearly 1,000 independent, corporate, community, and operating foundations and corporate giving programs and grantmaking public charities. Included are grants reported to the Foundation Center by the grantmakers themselves or captured from public records. The file excludes roughly $280 million in announced giving to unspecified recipients, through employee-matching gift and foundation-administered programs, from grantmakers that are no longer active, or from companies that made a one-time gift but that do not maintain a formal corporate giving program.

Grants have been awarded to organizations across the country. The bulk of support for recipients outside of the Gulf Coast region was earmarked to benefit affected people, institutions, and communities in that region. For example, about $194 million was awarded to the District of Columbia-based American Red Cross for Gulf Coast Hurricane-related relief. Funding outside of the region has also supported activities such as victim relocation efforts and direct services for evacuees in various states and communities and local disaster-prevention efforts.

Click to the next level to see grant recipients in that region. Click on a recipient name to see a list of its grants and to view the detail of each grant. Narrow your search by selecting a single year or multiple years from 2005 to 2008 and individual or multiple subjects.

Click on a recipient name to see a list of its grants and to view the detail of each grant. Narrow your search by selecting a single year or multiple years from 2005 to 2008.
