Search Companies

1. Where does the 10-K Tab take me, and how can I use this information?

Clicking on the 10-K Tab launches the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission's (SEC) web site in a new browser window providing links to the latest available SEC Form 10-K filings by a particular company. A Form 10-K is a detailed annual report about a company's business. All publicly traded companies are required by the SEC to file a Form 10-K each year. Information from a 10-K might be useful when conducting in-depth research on the business activities of a sponsoring company.

2. What's the difference between the Business Activities field and the Business Type (SIC) field?

The Business Activities field contains a general description indicating the principal products and services provided or the types of business conducted by the company. The Business Type (SIC) field contains a list of terms, derived from the company's business activities statement, based on the Standard Industrial Classification (SIC) system.

3. I'm searching for a particular name with the Officers/Directors search field but my searches aren't returning any results. Why?

The Officers/Directors search field is used to search for companies associated with a specific person known to be an officer or director. When typing a name directly into the search field, you'll need to know the exact way the name of the person you're trying to find appears in the index. For example, if a name is listed in the index as "Doe, John Q.," typing "John Doe" into the search field won't retrieve the company record you're looking for—the "Q." must be included. For this reason, we recommend selecting the name from the Officers/Directors Index.

4. I'm looking for a particular name in the Officers/Directors Index but I can't seem to find it. Why?

The Officers/Directors search field and its related index is used to search for companies associated with a specific person known to be an officer or director. While the names of all public company directors are listed, the index only includes the names of senior corporate officers and only those working in select departments. For example, the index includes a company's President, Chief Financial Officer, or Vice President of Marketing but doesn't include a company's Chief Technology Officer, Assistant Secretary, or Vice President of Government Affairs.

5. How can I search for companies based on Fortune 1000 ranking?

Although you can't sort your results based on Fortune 1000 ranking, you can limit your search to those companies appearing on the most recent Fortune 1000 list by typing "Fortune 1000" into the Keyword Search field. Likewise, you can limit your search to those companies appearing on the most recent Forbes 2000 list by typing "Forbes 2000" into the Keyword Search field.
